Flash Site nightmare

So I had my first experience with building a website in Flash cs4. Really when I think about it, it wasn't as bad as when I first started learning how to use Dreamweaver and now when I make a website the first program I'd rather use is definitely Flash. Anyway, the assignment was to create a website using only Flash. I went to a trip in Japan once and as a result aquired a huge photo album of all of the pictures I had taken. So I decided that I would make an animated/interactive photo album. I thought, "hey i know how to make motion tweens and cool transitions, I'll just make a photo gallery do that"..........pshhh I was so wrong lol. I worked on the thing for a whole week and got nothing but errors. I had my teacher look at it the day before it was due to help me figure out the last few errors. After about 45 min we figured it out, but as he was leaving I sat back down in my seat and Flash decided to crash on me. I lost the whole 45 min! I was so ticked. Instead of wasting time trying to make it work I decided to give myself an easier topic and created a website about rubik's cubes (ofcourse) that had cool transitions between pages. I found a section of my book that taught me how to use action script tweens instead of timeline tweens. It was awesome! Here is how it ended up. It was cool though because all of the errors and several days of trial and error actually helped me learn everything first and then when I started over to work on this site it only took me about 4-5 hours.

Rubiks (Flash CS4)

I think it turned out pretty darn awesome! :)

Kinetic Typography

We were given this assignment to animate text using flash cs3 or cs4. These are some of awesome examples of what kinetic typography looks like:
"Nick the Greek"

"Fight Club"

LandonAshely

So I made a logo for a company I completely made up. It's called "LandonAshley Lifestyle Outfitters".

Business Card:

Letterhead:

Envelope Front and Back:

Later on I'm going to make some actual clothing as it is a clothing company after all. I'll upload pictures of some of my first shirts in a little while.

Original Ideas

Here were some of the first ideas I had for the Mt. Dew site.

This was going to be an intro page. I decided the glass button was too hard to see and the line of ice was awkward.

This was going to be a page where I pasted all of the previous mt. logos. It looked a little redundant so I decided not to.

One of the original layouts. Looked a little too dark for me.

Here's the final product. I felt that the wood background was more like mt. dew, skater, sports like.

Graphic Interface Design

So I started a way cool class called Graphic Interface Design at Utah State. We learn all kinds of stuff from html and css to flash and animation. We've been using both Dreamweaver and Flash in both CS3 and CS4. I haven't noticed a huge difference between CS3 and CS4 but I'm almost thinking that I still prefer CS3 over the new version. The new version seems to be buggy and the interface is annoying sometimes with how they've arranged everything in tabs. Action script 3 has a lot of cool changes though. I'm going to post my assignments and progress on this blog. Enjoy!
